Welcome to the DevCOP Research Website!

This website provides a detailed overview of the DevCOP (Defect Estimation with V&V Certificate on Programming) Research at NC State University. This research is being conducted by
Mark Sherriff and is being advised by Dr. Laurie Williams. Funding for this research is provided by the National Science Foundation.

Overview
DevCOP provides a mechanism for the creation and management of
software certificates through a
software certificate management system. A
software certificate is a record of a verification and validation (V&V) practice employed by developers and used to support traceability between code and evidence of the V&V technique used. A
software certificate management system (SCMS) provides an interface and infrastructure to automatically create, maintain, and analyze software certificates. Using a persistent record of V&V techniques with previous project defect information, we are building a parametric model to predict defect density earlier in the development process to aid developers in finding defects earlier, thus reducing development cost and improving software reliability.
